I entered Hacienda Paradiso overweight, self-conscious and broken. I took this leap of faith realizing that my current lifestyle was not sustainable and most importantly, I couldn’t recognize the person I had become.

Of course I was nervous and anxious days leading up to my stay, but all those feelings turned positive as soon as I landed at the airport. I was personally greeted and driven to the hacienda and just like that these feelings turned to motivation and optimism.

The hacienda is beautiful, located in the Spanish countryside surrounded by beautiful landscapes and different types of fruit trees. This isn’t at all what I expected a rehab facility to look like, but rather this reminded me of a beautiful boutique hotel set in the Spanish countryside.

The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. I was worried that stopping my daily drinking habits right away would cause me to feel ill or have withdrawals within the first coupled days if not hours. This was not the case at all. Upon arrival I immediately talked to the head doctor, discussed my drinking, my fears etc. He reassured me that they would do everything possible to help me and create a personal plan in order to make this transition as easy as possible. They helped me every step of the way and I never thought that stopping to drink would have been possible in such a short time. They truly take care of everyone and most importantly you can tell without a doubt, that they DO care. Everyone is so passionate and give their best to help you during your stay. This all went way beyond my expectations.

I can truly say this was one the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I was able to tell right away that sessions and one-on-one talks are not “curriculum based” but rather personally structured and catered to your needs and expectations. Most of us are different by nature. We come from different backgrounds. We live different lives and have different issues and expectations. The staff truly understand this and look at you as a fellow human rather than a patient that is suffering from a drug or alcohol problem.

Lastly, I can’t say enough about the food! There was a saying at the hacienda… “Come for rehab, stay for the food!”. Local fresh produce everyday form the region and some of the friendliest staff you will ever meet. In addition, there is a library, fireplace, pool, electric bikes, gym etc. There is always something to do if you please and also plenty of space to relax and reflect in peace.

If you are someone that is looking to make a change and is reading this post…. Trust me, I was in the exact position you are currently sitting in. All I can give you is my honest opinion. I didn’t think it was possible, and I didn’t think that my drinking was out of control, but the truth is that I was lying to myself. I am now almost 6 months sober and have never felt this great.
